Moxie Shield 1800 Concrete Waterproofing Admix is suitable for all forms of cementitious construction and products. Moxie Shield 1800 creates a complex chemical reaction by converting the by-products of cement hydration into a higher density cementitious material creating an impermeable substrate. The unique chemistry of Moxie Shield 1800 forms an integral colloidal gel membrane prior to initial set. These colloidal gels eliminate the formation of capillary pathways and restrict the rapid evaporation of surface water. Moxie Shield 1800 increases freeze-thaw durability and becomes an integral curing compound.
IBC, SEC 1911 – EPA 24 VOC – EPA Marine – NCHRP 244 – ASTM C494 – UDOT USDA approved for use in food processing areas. Complies with OSHA 29 CFR- -1910.1200.

Prior to use, we would recommend consulting the product label, product technical data sheet, and SDS sheet. For your benefit, this information is included below.
Yes. Moxie Shield 1800 Concrete Waterproofing Admixture has a dedicated CSI Specification Sheet for straightforward inclusion in project specifications. It satisfies above-grade and below-grade waterproofing requirements across all cementitious construction types — slabs, walls, foundations, precast elements, and more. Because protection is integral to the concrete matrix, it can eliminate the coordination complexity of separate membrane or topical systems.
No. Moxie Shield 1800 Concrete Waterproofing Admixture does not alter the surface appearance of concrete. It is compatible with integral stains and color additives (note: color must be integral; topical color should be applied within a day or two). For decorative applications including stamped concrete, it actually improves workability and acts as a release aid — a functional bonus, not a constraint.
Yes. Moxie Shield 1800 Concrete Waterproofing Admixture is water-based, zero VOC, and contributes to LEED points. A dedicated LEED documentation sheet is available to support your submittal pack- age.
Depending on the design, it can replace physical vapour retarders, waterproofing membranes, shrinkage-reducing admixtures, and hardeners and curing agents — dramatically simplifying wall section and slab detail coordination. Fewer products mean fewer trades, fewer interfaces, and fewer points of failure.
Moxie Shield 1800 Concrete Waterproofing Admixture is an enhanced sodium silicate concrete densifier. During cement hydration it reacts within the matrix to form insoluble solids that fill and eliminate capillary voids — the primary pathways for moisture, chloride, and sulfate ingress. The result is zero detectable water transmission at pressures up to 200 psi. There are no membranes, coatings, or secondary systems involved.
By eliminating capillary pathways, Moxie Shield 1800 Concrete Waterproofing Admixture prevents chlorides from reaching reinforcing steel — effectively eliminating the need for epoxy-coated rebar in most applications. Note: any exposed bar caps or ends remain temporarily shielded but should still be considered in corrosion-sensitive exposure conditions.
Moxie Shield 1800 Concrete Waterproofing Admixture meets the ASTM C494 specification as a Type S admixture. Supporting technical data includes freeze-thaw durability documentation, Tabor/Abrasion testing confirming densification, compressive strength, and project-specific mix design data. Technical data is available on request from the sales and engineering team.
Maximum water/cement ratio is 0.52. Dosage rate is 11 oz. per 100 lbs. cwt of cementitious materials. The admixture replaces an equal volume of batch water. Compressive and flexural strength outcomes are mix-design dependent; higher strength results have been confirmed across documented projects. Consult Moxie’s technical department for other mix design questions.
Rather than increasing curing temperature, Moxie Shield 1800 Concrete Waterproofing Admixture decreases thermal transmission — creating a temporary thermal barrier that minimizes heat loss or gain during the curing period. This reduces the moisture differential between the top and bottom of slabs, which helps control curling.
Yes. Moxie Shield 1800 Concrete Waterproofing Admixture shuts down the mechanism that causes Alkali Silica Reactivity (ASR) and reduces plastic shrinkage cracking caused by rapid surface evaporation — two of the most common long-term durability risks in reinforced concrete.
Moxie Shield 1800 Concrete Waterproofing Admixture is added at the batch plant, replacing an equal volume of batch water. There is no on-site mixing, no secondary application step, and no additional labor once the mix is designed. It arrives in the truck, ready to place.
Positively. Moxie Shield 1800 Concrete Waterproofing Admixture acts as a pumping aid — lubricating the mix and reducing line pressure. The slump may appear lower by measurement (e.g. 3” to 31⁄2” on the cone), but actual workability behaves like a higher 5” slump mix. The material is thixotropic, meaning it flows better under agitation. Finishing is easier, with reduced surface stickiness and more cohesive results.
Yes — in documented projects, Moxie Shield 1800 Concrete Waterproofing Admixture has eliminated the need for separate curing compounds, vapour retarder underlayment, and waterproofing membranes. Fewer products, fewer trades, cleaner sequencing.
Yes. It is water-based with zero VOCs, making it compliant for use in environmentally sensitive zones. Moxie has documented success in fish hatchery construction — among the more demanding aquatic environments for concrete performance.
It is added at the batch plant in liquid form, substituted for an equal volume of batch water. No new equipment is required. Add Moxie Shield 1800 Concrete Waterproofing Admixture into the mixer with 20% of the batch water before adding other ingredients. Dosage is 11 oz. per cwt of cementitious materials. It is compatible with all forms of cementitious construction — precast, cast-in-place, slab- on-grade, slab-on-deck, and architectural concrete products.
Moxie Shield 1800 Concrete Waterproofing Admixture replaces vapour retarder admixtures, shrinkage-reducing agents, and curing admixtures — meaning it typically simplifies your admixture program rather than adding to it. Mix design consultation is available through Moxie’s technical department.
Strength outcomes are mix-design dependent. An ultimate strength increase should be expected. Cylinder compressive strength break histories from field batches — including Teichert data from 2015 — are available for technical review.

Concrete that fails from moisture infiltration — cracking, rebar corrosion, mold, flooring failure, structural degradation — is expensive to remediate and disruptive to operations. Moxie Shield 1800 Concrete Waterproofing Admixture makes the concrete itself the waterproofing system, protecting the entire mass of the structure rather than relying on surface coatings or membranes that can fail at seams, joints, or penetrations. That means lower lifecycle costs, longer intervals between major repairs, and infrastructure that performs for generations.
The net benefit is positive across all documented projects. Savings come from elimination of sepa- rate waterproofing products, reduced vapour barrier labor, simplified construction sequencing, and — most significantly — dramatically extended service life. A dedicated Cost-Benefit Analysis docu- ment is available to support your capital planning process.
Moxie has over 50 years of field performance with no documented failures across residential, com- mercial, industrial, civil, and public infrastructure projects. Applications include tunnels, bridges, dams, levees, airports, arenas, water retention structures, and pools. Project examples and references are available on request from Moxie’s sales team at (844) 845-1975 or sales@moxieinternational.com.
Yes. Moxie Shield 1800 Concrete Waterproofing Admixture is specifically engineered for environ- ments where concrete must resist hydrostatic pressure, chloride exposure, and sustained moisture — making it ideal for water retention structures, pools, dams, levees, marine wharves, and waterfront infrastructure. It is zero VOC and safe for aquatically sensitive environments.
Yes. Moxie Shield 1800 Concrete Waterproofing Admixture has a dedicated CSI Specification Sheet formatted for Division 03 — Concrete. It is written to drop into Section 03 30 00 (Cast-in-Place Con- crete) or equivalent sections for precast and specialty concrete applications. The specification lan- guage supports both prescriptive and performance-based approaches.
Moxie Shield 1800 Concrete Waterproofing Admixture is the only vapour-proofing admixture on the market — competing products reduce water and vapour transmission but do not achieve true im- permeability. Specify zero detectable water transmission at up to 200 psi, elimination of capillary pathways, and ASTM C494 Type S compliance. Competitors who cannot demonstrate equivalent test performance cannot substitute. Moxie’s technical team can provide model specification language.
Available technical documentation includes: ASTM C494 Type S approval, freeze-thaw durability test data, Tabor/Abrasion testing, compressive strength break histories from field batches, and project-lev- el performance records spanning 50 years. All documentation is on file and provided upon request.
Moxie Shield 1800 Concrete Waterproofing Admixture can replace physical vapour retarders and barriers (Division 07), waterproofing admixtures, shrinkage-reducing agents, and curing compounds. Specifying it as an integral admixture consolidates moisture protection into Division 03, potentially eliminating or simplifying related sections and reducing interface coordination risk.
Both approaches are viable. A performance-based spec can call for: zero measurable water trans- mission at 200 psi, elimination of capillary voids via reactive silicate chemistry, ASTM C494 Type S compliance, and maximum 0.52 w/c ratio. Because no other product simultaneously meets all these thresholds, this effectively functions as a sole-source basis of design.
Yes. Moxie can provide references from architects, specifiers, structural engineers, general contrac- tors, and batch plants across residential, commercial, industrial, civil, and public infrastructure sec- tors. Project documentation is also available at moxie-intl.com/projects.

Moxie Shield 1400 Masonry Block Sealer is engineered for large-pore masonry substrates — concrete masonry units (CMU), manufactured stone, gunite, shotcrete, mortar, grout, and ornamental concrete surfaces. The formulation is calibrated for the larger, more open pore structure of block and CMU, where greater product volume per unit area are needed to achieve effective protection.
No. Moxie Shield 1400 Masonry Block Sealer is a surface penetrating treatment, not a surface coating or film-former. It does not change the color, sheen, or surface texture of CMU, stone, or concrete surfaces. The treated surface looks identical to the untreated surface — important for exposed architectural block, split-face CMU, decorative concrete, and ornamental masonry applications.
Moxie Shield 1400 Masonry Block Sealer is appropriate for any exposed CMU, concrete block, or porous concrete facade. Common applications include industrial and warehouse facilities, institutional buildings with exposed block construction, split-face CMU feature walls, concrete retaining and site walls, gunite and shotcrete pools or water features, mortar joints in masonry assemblies, and ornamental concrete elements in landscape and hardscape environments.
Yes. Moxie Shield 1500 Penetrating Concrete Sealer is specifically documented for preparing concrete to receive resilient flooring, epoxies, coatings, and adhesives. It preserves and prepares the concrete surface for subsequent bonded applications. For moisture verification before flooring installation, ASTM E1907 (relative humidity test) is the only acceptable protocol — see the Specifiers section for moisture testing details.
Moxie Shield 1400 Masonry Block Sealer is a water-based inorganic sealer. When applied to masonry block or porous concrete, it penetrates in and onto the pore structure and undergoes a condensation reaction with moisture and existing minerals within the substrate, converting from liquid to a hard silicone resin within 24 hours. Field and laboratory testing shows superior performance over silane/siloxane sealers formulated with alcohol or petroleum solvents.
Moxie Shield 1400 Masonry Block Sealer achieves penetration up to 3/4 inch in concrete block and large- pore masonry, ranging down to 1/4 inch in dense, fine-pored masonry products and concrete. Coverage rate is 50 to 100 sq ft per gallon for two coats, depending on substrate porosity.
Moxie Shield 1400 Masonry Block Sealer produces a breathable, water-repellent surface rated for wind- driven rain up to 30 miles per hour. This is a specific, tested performance threshold — particularly relevant for exposed CMU facades in coastal, high-rise, or open-site environments where lateral wind pressure drives moisture into masonry wall assemblies.
Moxie Shield 1400 Masonry Block Sealer is tested and compliant with ASTM C666 (freeze-thaw resistance) and ASTM D3960 (VOC content). It meets EPA USDA VOC = 0 and is USDA approved for use in food processing areas. It complies with OSHA 29 CFR 1910. All compliance documentation is available for project submittals.
Yes. Moxie Shield 1400 Masonry Block Sealer is specifically documented as a dust-proofing compound in addition to its water repellent and efflorescence inhibitor functions. The silicone resin formed within the pore structure binds and consolidates surface particles, reducing dusting without creating a surface film. This is a meaningful performance benefit in industrial, warehouse, and below-grade environments where floor and wall dusting creates housekeeping and equipment contamination issues.
Apply using an airless or low-pressure (MESTO type) sprayer for best results on CMU and block surfac- es. A brush or roller may also be used. Do not use compressed air — the product will foam. Saturate the surface thoroughly, allowing a 12-inch rundown during application. Work in 5-foot segments on large wall areas. Coverage rate is 50 to 100 sq ft per gallon for two coats.
The second coat must be applied while the first coat is still damp. On porous CMU substrates, the first coat can be absorbed and begin curing faster than on denser materials. If the first coat dries, the surface will white over. Work in sections of no more than 50 sq ft at a time and increase vigilance on hot, dry, or windy days when evaporation accelerates.
All cracks and construction faults must be repaired before treatment. The surface must be thoroughly cleaned and power washed — no detergents. Allow a minimum of 48 to 72 hours drying time. The sub-strate must be completely dry and clean at the time of application. Do not apply to moist or wet surfaces, in rain, in direct sunlight, in windy conditions, or when ambient temperatures are below 50 degrees F / 10 degrees C.
Due to the high pH of the formulation, Moxie Shield 1400 Masonry Block Sealer must not come in contact with glass, porcelain, ceramic tile, aluminum, zinc, or galvanized steel. Contact will permanently etch or erode the surface. Any accidental contact must be rinsed immediately. The product must not contact plant life or leather.
Store in clean steel or plastic containers, sealed, above 40 degrees F / 4.5 degrees C. Do not allow the product to freeze. Keep separate from acids, reactive metals, and ammonium salts. The product has indef-inite shelf life when stored correctly. The formulation is non-toxic, non-flammable, and not regulated as hazardous for transportation under DOT.
Yes. Factory pre-application on concrete masonry units is a viable and commercially attractive approach. Factory conditions provide consistent substrate porosity, controlled application environment, and elimi- nate field application variability. Pre-treated CMU units arrive on site already protected against moisture intrusion, efflorescence, dusting, and freeze-thaw damage — a meaningful product differentiation for pro- ducers competing in quality-conscious commercial and institutional markets.
The documented dust-proofing function — unique to the 1400 in the Moxie Shield line — is a compelling differentiator for CMU producers targeting industrial, warehouse, institutional, and below-grade appli- cations where surface dusting is a known maintenance and contamination problem. Pre-treated, dust- proofed CMU represents a premium product tier with measurable operational benefits for end users.
The documented substrate range spans industrial and warehouse construction, institutional buildings with exposed block, municipal and civic facilities, commercial and retail construction, ornamental landscape and hardscape, and below-grade construction. The wind-driven rain rating at 30 mph makes it particularly relevant for coastal interior and high-exposure sites.
Moxie Shield 1400 Masonry Block Sealer is available in 1-gallon pails, 5-gallon pails, 55-gallon drums, and 275-gallon totes. Contact Moxie’s sales team at (844) 845-1975 or sales@moxieinternational.com to dis- cuss volume pricing, packaging options, and production-scale supply logistics.
CMU and concrete block are among the most porous building materials in common use. Unsealed, they absorb substantial volumes of rainwater and ground moisture, which migrates through the block and mortar joints, carrying soluble salts to the surface as efflorescence, supporting biological growth, activat- ing alkali reactions, and creating the freeze-thaw cycling that causes progressive surface deterioration. The cost of treating masonry block is a fraction of the cost of repointing, resurfacing, or replacing deteriorated material.
It creates a penetrating, breathable water-repellent barrier up to 3/4 inch deep within block and mortar that resists liquid water absorption — including wind-driven rain up to 30 mph. Protection includes efflorescence and alkali salt migration, surface staining, mildew and fungus growth, freeze-thaw flaking and spalling, sur- face dusting on block and concrete floors and walls, and deterioration from contaminant penetration.
Surface dusting from CMU and poured concrete is a common and persistent maintenance problem in warehouses, industrial facilities, parking structures, and below-grade spaces. Moxie Shield 1400 Masonry Block Sealer’s silicone resin consolidates surface particles within the pore structure, eliminating the source of dusting without creating a surface coating that can peel or wear. For facility owners, that translates directly to reduced cleaning costs and extended equipment life.
Moxie Shield 1400 Masonry Block Sealer is designed for both existing and new masonry surfaces. For owners of existing CMU, block, or poured concrete buildings — particularly those showing early signs of efflorescence, staining, or surface deterioration — it is an effective remediation and long-term protection tool.
Yes. Moxie Shield 1400 Masonry Block Sealer is guaranteed to perform and be manufactured per the specifications contained in Moxie Engineering documentation. With over 50 years of field performance on building and construction materials, Moxie’s guarantee is backed by a documented track record.
Moxie Shield 1400 Masonry Block Sealer is specified under Division 04 — Masonry, within sections covering CMU and concrete masonry — typically Section 04 22 00 (Concrete Unit Masonry) for new construction, or Section 04 01 00 (Maintenance of Masonry) for existing assemblies. For concrete substrate applications, it may be specified under Division 03 — Concrete. Moxie’s technical team can provide CSI-formatted specification language for your project structure.
Moxie Shield 1400 Masonry Block Sealer supports the following specification thresholds: inorganic silicone resin chemistry performing as a breathable water-repellent barrier with vapour transmission preserved, wind-driven rain resistance rated to 30 mph, ASTM C666 freeze-thaw compliance, ASTM D3960 VOC compliance at zero VOC, dust-proofing function, and no visible alteration of surface color or texture.
Require penetrating inorganic chemistry forming a silicone resin bond within the substrate surface, zero VOC per ASTM D3960, preserved moisture vapour transmission, wind-driven rain resistance to minimum 30 mph, and ASTM C666 freeze-thaw compliance. Film-forming acrylics and elastomerics cannot meet the breathable and penetrating criteria. Solvent-based silane/siloxane sealers cannot meet the zero VOC and inorganic chemistry criteria.
